Insurance in Spain

It is important that you insure your property in Spain against potential damage and theft. Numerous policies are available in Spain. We recommend that you use a reputable insurer and ensure that your policy covers everything you require. Be aware that the procedure to follow when making a claim may differ from that in your home country. You may need to claim within 24 hours of an incident occurring. You need to know this in advance, so before taking out a policy, ask questions.

Health insurance is widely available whether you are visiting or living in Spain. If you do not qualify for social security medical care you must insure yourself and your family in case of emergency or illness. Failure to do so can result in some hefty bills.

It is up to you to ensure that you are insured to cover every eventuality. Make sure there are no gaps in your insurance due to differences in policies from different countries, for example, Spanish health insurance doesn't cover car accidents, which are automatically covered by Spanish car insurance. If your car is insured with a UK insurer and you have Spanish health insurance you will not therefore, be covered in the case of a car accident should you need medical treatment.
